The New Skin

Growth requires leaving the old behind. A snake can only grow when it sheds its old skin. The process is uncomfortable. But the new skin underneath is already there – fresh, strong, alive. Your non-smoker identity is waiting beneath the old skin.

The New Skin
```xml Get comfortable. Close your eyes or let your gaze soften. Take one deep breath in. And out again. Feel how your body relaxes. Today I'm taking you on a journey to a story about what waits beneath the surface. In the tall grass at the forest's edge lies a grass snake motionless in the morning sun. Its skin has become dull, almost milky. The eyes seem clouded, as if a thin veil has been drawn over them. A passerby stops and thinks: "That poor snake looks sick." But the snake is not sick. It is preparing itself. For days it has felt its skin becoming too tight. Every movement has become uncomfortable. The old no longer fits what it has become. It searches for a rough stone, a root, something with resistance. There it begins to rub itself. Carefully at first, then more decisively. It is laborious. The old skin doesn't want to let go. It clings, pulls, resists. Centimeter by centimeter the snake works its way forward. Sometimes it pauses, exhausted from the effort. But then it glimpses something through a tear in the old skin for a moment. Beneath it, something new shimmers. Fresh scales, gleaming and strong. The new skin is already there. It has been there all along, beneath the old. With one final movement the snake frees itself completely. The old skin is left behind like a transparent glove. Perfectly formed, but empty. The snake glides away, its movements smooth and free. Its new scales shimmer in the sun. It is the same snake and yet different. Breathe in consciously once. And out. Imagine you could sense where your own old skin has become too tight. Where something in you waits to reveal itself. What lies beneath the surface, ready? Sometimes we believe we must change first in order to let go. But perhaps it is the other way around. Perhaps we must let go to become what we already are. Breathe in what wants to come. Breathe out what no longer belongs to you. The new skin is already there. It only waits for you to be ready to shed the old. The discomfort in letting go is not an ending – it is proof that something new needs space. The discomfort in letting go is not an ending – it is proof that something new needs space. Take this thought with you into your day. Trust in what already waits beneath the surface. Take one more deep breath in. Slowly open your eyes. Feel your new skin. Thank you for these shared minutes. Thank you for using Calm Sessions. ```
