The Second Best Time

Waiting for the perfect moment is waiting for never. The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best is now. What will you plant today?

The Second Best Time
```xml Get comfortable and let your shoulders drop. Take one deep breath in and out again. Once more – breathe in, let the air flow down into your belly, and exhale slowly. Today I'd like to tell you a story about a man and an ancient wisdom that changed everything. It was a gray Tuesday in March when David walked through the streets of his hometown. He was forty-six years old and had just handed in his resignation. After twenty years in the same office. His colleagues had stared at him in disbelief. "Now? At your age? Without a concrete plan?" David walked on, past the small park where he had played as a child. There sat an old man on a bench, watching a gardener plant a young tree. "Beautiful tree," David said, stopping. The old man nodded. "You know," he said in a calm voice, "there is a Chinese wisdom: The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago." He paused and looked at David. "The second best is now." David felt something shift within him. "Twenty years ago," he murmured, "I was twenty-six. That's when I wanted to be a writer." The old man smiled. "And what about the second best time?" David looked down at his hands – the same hands that once wrote poetry, before life got in the way. Before security became more important than dreams. "I've always been waiting," he said softly. "For the right moment. When the children leave home. When the money is right. When I have more time." The gardener patted down the earth around the young tree and watered it. "This tree," said the old man, "won't be perfect in five years. Not in ten either. But if we plant it today, it will grow a little bit more each day." David nodded slowly. The next day he bought a notebook. A simple, blue notebook. And wrote the first lines of a story that had been sleeping within him for twenty years. Feel your own breath now. Breathe in – and think about something you've been meaning to do for a long time. Breathe out – and let this thought stay with you for a moment. Perhaps there is something in your life that you've been waiting for the perfect moment to do. A conversation that needs to happen. A hobby you wanted to start. A step you could take. Breathe in again and ask yourself: What if the second best time really is now? Not when everything is perfect. Not when you feel ready. But now. Let your breath flow and sense: What small step could be possible today? The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best is now. The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best is now. Take this thought with you into your day – not as pressure, but as an invitation. What are you planting today? Take one more deep breath and gently return. Open your eyes if they were closed. Thank you for these shared moments. Thank you for using Calm Sessions. ```
