The Stranger Who Greeted You
We are less alone than we believe. A nod, a brief glance, a murmured 'good morning'. Small signs: You are seen, you belong here.

Get comfortable and settle down.
Close your eyes or lower your gaze.
Take a deep breath in.
And out.
Feel how your body relaxes.
One more conscious breath.
Today I'm taking you on a very ordinary street.
Into a moment you may have experienced a thousand times before.
It's seven o'clock in the morning in a very normal German city.
The street is still in semi-darkness, only a few windows glowing yellow.
You're going to work, as you do every day, your thoughts already on the first meeting.
Then an older man comes toward you.
Gray jacket, shopping bag in hand, probably on his way to the bakery.
You're the only two people on the street.
He raises his gaze, looks briefly into your eyes.
"Morning," he says quietly.
You nod back, murmur a "Morning."
You both continue on, each in your own direction.
Five seconds, nothing more.
A tiny exchange between two strangers.
But something happened in those five seconds.
The man could have looked away.
You could have pulled out your phone.
Instead, you saw each other.
Not just with your eyes – with something else.
With the part in you that recognizes: There is a human being like me.
Who gets up early, who has his worries, who is tired too.
Who also hopes the day will go well.
In this brief greeting lay a silent message: You are not alone here.
We share this street, this city, this morning.
You belong.
Later in the day you forget the man again.
But somewhere in you, something remains.
A tiny feeling of belonging.
Of connection.
Now breathe consciously in and think of the last stranger who greeted you.
Maybe it was yesterday, maybe last week.
Breathe out and sense: What did that do to you?
Sometimes we're so caught up in our thoughts that we overlook these small gifts.
The nod from the cashier.
The smile in the elevator.
The neighbor who says "Have a nice weekend."
Breathe in and let these moments come to you.
And out – recognize how many people build small bridges to you every day.
We don't live in separate worlds.
We live in a web of tiny encounters.
Every greeting is a thread in this web.
Every eye contact says: You are seen.
You matter.
You are less alone than you think.
You are less alone than you think.
In every greeting from a stranger lies this truth hidden.
Take this thought with you into your day.
And perhaps today you will be that stranger yourself, the one who greets someone.
Who shows someone: You belong.
Breathe in deeply once more and gently return.
Open your eyes and take this connection with you.
Thank you for these shared minutes.
Thank you for using Calm Sessions.
