The Inner Anchor
When everything around you is shaking – this meditation connects you with the stable core within you that remains, no matter what happens.
Imagine yourself standing at the edge of a wild ocean.
The waves crash high, the wind howls, everything is in motion.
This is your life: sometimes stormy, sometimes unpredictable.
But deep beneath the surface of this ocean lies something else.
Down there it is still.
Down there nothing moves, no matter how wildly the storms rage above.
Breathe in deeply and dive with your attention downward.
Leave the surface waves of your thoughts behind you.
Sink deeper, to where your true self rests.
Feel how the pressure of the outside world lessens the deeper you sink.
Here below is your anchor.
Not made of metal or stone, but of something far stronger.
It consists of the part of you that has always been there.
The part that has survived all your changes.
Breathe into this depth.
Let your breath be like a rope that connects you to this anchor.
Do you remember times when everything was different in your life?
The circumstances, the people, your dreams – everything has transformed.
But there was always something that remained.
The awareness with which you observed all these changes.
That is you.
The observer.
The witness.
Your inner anchor.
Feel how something in you relaxes when you recognize this.
The fear of change becomes smaller.
Because you now know: What is truly important cannot be lost.
Breathe in deeply and feel this certainty.
Breathe out and let go of all worries about what is fleeting.
Your anchor holds you, even when the storms of life come.
It does not make you immovable, but gives you the freedom to dance.
Like a ship that lies safely at anchor and yet can still sway with the waves.
Take a deep breath and feel this new kind of stability.
It does not come from everything staying the same.
It comes from knowing: You yourself remain.
